The Gates Foundation highlights the development of Interceptor® G2 (IG2), a next-generation insecticide-treated mosquito net designed to address the growing problem of insecticide resistance in malaria-carrying mosquitoes. Developed by BASF researchers in partnership with the Innovative Vector Control Consortium, IG2 combines two insecticides that attack mosquitoes in different ways. In a two-year trial in Tanzania, the nets reduced malaria incidence among children under 10 by 45% compared with traditional nets. More than 61 million IG2 nets have now been distributed across Africa, demonstrating how continued innovation in mosquito control can help protect communities and advance efforts to end malaria.
